ACADEMY AWARD-WINNING FILM BY MILOŠ FORMAN ACCOMPANIED BY SYMPHONIC ORCHESTRA

Miloš Forman’s Amadeus, the winner of eight Academy Awards, on a large-format LED projection screen and orchestra and choir performing live instead of studio-recorded film music. For its premiere less than three years ago, the unique production Amadeus LIVE sold out the prestigious Royal Albert Hall in London, and only a month later, it sold out the Prague Congress Center twice. Now, it will see its Czech festival premiere on Saturday, August 31, at the SOUNDTRACK Poděbrady. The town of Poděbrady played a great role in Miloš Forman´s life for he attended local boarding school for war orphans.

The acclaimed film Amadeus was created as an adaptation of the play by recently deceased Peter Shaffer. The thrilling story of a fateful clash of brilliance and mediocrity was filmed 35 years ago in Prague and was supported by a number of Czech filmmakers and actors. Perfect camera by Miroslav Ondříček, fantastic costumes by Theodor Pištěk ml. and the beauty of Prague’s palaces, theatres and alleys – all of that has lend the film an indelible atmosphere.

The stage will accommodate a total of 89 musicians, including 52 members of the Hradec Králové Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Ernst van Tiel and 36 choir singers of the Kühn Mixed Choir.

Amadeus tells the story of Viennese court composer Antonio Salieri, who is envied by discovering that the divine musical gifts he had longed for were given to the crazy, vulgar and dishonest young composer Mozart. Salieri’s envy drives him to the point of trying to get rid of his opponent by intrigue.
